Charles Gatt Curriculum Vitae
Born in Malta
Charles Gatt's interest in both music and painting started more or less concurrently. From 1966 to 1968, pursued a teacher's training course at St. Michael's College of Education specialising in Art.
He was an Art teacher from 1968 to 1975 when he joined the staff of Malta's main school of music, teaching percussion. At the same time he started working on projects which incorporated touch, sound and vision. Gatt has served as musical director of Malta Jazz Festival for fifteen years.
He has performed in festivals in Malta, the USA, the soviet Union, North Africa, Australia, and various european countries. At Boston's Berklee College of Music, Gatt furthered his studies with Joe Hunt, Mike Metheny and Andy Jaffe. For a year he was regular percussionist with Boston's Melrose Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist he has performed at the Royal Festival Hall and Barbican Centre.
Charles Gatt is a member of the European art group 'Frequenzen' and the local art group 'Start'. Recent exhibitions and venues include:

- National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta,
- 'Changes' sound installation in 1999 and with Frequenzen in 1998.
As a member of 'Start' he participated in 'Blitz' at the 'Malta at War Museum' in Vittoriosa (2005), 'Borders' at Pinto Wharf (2004), 'Escape' at the Old Prisons, Citadel, Gozo (2003) and Cityspaces in Valletta (2002).
